Capstone Project

Hours Done: 4

On April 9, 2013 I went to South San Francisco Clinic and I did two hours from 2:10-4:10 pm. I had to call every patient and schedule them an appointment for Friday. There were two appointments one was the English and the other one was the Spanish appointment. I learned how to talk polite and how to introduce myself and where I was calling from, and I also learned how to leave voicemails. This also helped me to be patience. It was difficult at the beginning because I was shy and I would stutter. But throughout the two hours I got confidence and it was getting easier for me. I also went on April 12, 2013 for another two hours from 2:10-4:10 pm. It was the appointment to show the rest of the patients how to use the Blood Glucose Monitoring System. This has helped me a lot to not be as shy as how I was at the beginning.

Capstone Hours

Hours Done: 4

On April 5, 2013 I went to South San Francisco Clinic from 8:00 am to 12:00 pm. My mentor had more patients come in to show them how to use the Blood Glucose Monitoring System. We did the same thing as last week; we helped them program the machine and also showed them how to use it. It was easier for me because I had done this the other week and I knew how to do it perfectly.  I also learned that diabetes is very dangerous to have because you could go blind and your nerves that are the farthest from your heart can dye faster and these are your toes and your kidneys.  The number of people having diabetes is increasing. People with diabetes have to eat health, drink a lot of water, and walk at least an hour every day.  They have to check their sugar at least twice a day so they could have their sugar controlled. Your sugar has to be between 90-130, this is normal.  I learned that I have to take care of myself, by eating healthy and doing exercise.  Taking care of your body is very important.

Capstone Project

Hours Done: 1

On March 26, 2013 I went to the South San Francisco clinic for an hour, from 3:00pm to 4:00pm. My mentor gave an appointment to 20 of her patients for the same day. We were all in a meeting room to show them how to use the new Blood Glucose Monitoring System. We first helped them to program the machine with the right time, day, year, and language. After we were done we showed them how to use it. At the beginning I was shy, I would turn red but throughout the hour I wasn’t as shy as the beginning. All the patients were nice and were calm to learn how to use the machine. This helped me to have the patience to help older people and to show them how to use it.
