Capstone Hours

Hours done: 3

On March 19, 2013 I went to the clinic again. I had to put a blood glucose meter which reads your sugar level, test strips which collects the blood sample, a lancet which is like a needle, and a lacing device which is the machine to poke your finger with, all in a yellow bag. These bags are going to be given to the patients with diabetes. Through out the week I had to practice to take my sugar and be sure how to use it, because I might help my mentor to show her patients how to use it. I was scared to poke myself because I thought it was going to hurt but it didn’t hurt how I thought it would.  After the first time, it got easier and I feel confident to do it.

Capstone Project Hours

Hours Done: 2

On March 12, 2013 I did two more hours.  I watched several video clips to learn how to use a diabetic machine. In the video clips I learn how to set up the machine and how to use it.  I also learn how to put the needle in and all the steps to inject your self. Checking your sugar is very important because if you don’t you have a high possibility to die if your sugar is not under control.  The normal sugar a human should have is between 90 and 130. If you have less then 90 that means that your body and brain doesn’t have enough blood. If your sugar is higher then 130 that means that your blood is very thick and the brain cannot bring the blood back. I practiced with a machine. One of the doctors told me to show him how to use it; he was testing me to see if I knew how to do it. I did a good job. I still have the problem with being shy but every time I go I try to not be shy.

Capstone Hours

Hours Done: 1

On March 5, 2013 I did another hour. I went from 3:10-4:10. When I got there was two little kids outside, a little girl and a little boy. I got some books and I told them if they wanted to read, the little boy said no and the little girl only wanted to read two books. There are a lot of kids that don’t like to read. My mentor said that they been having the same books over a year because the parents don’t accept the books that are given to them because they say that their children don’t like reading. I think that this is not good because they’re not going to like school. The parents should accept the books and read to them even if they don’t want. After I did this my mentor told me to put some things in order and stack them together. The problem I’m still having is that I’m really shy with the other nurses.  That’s the biggest problem I have, I try to not be shy and to make a conversation to get along with them. All the nurses are really nice and outgoing. One of my goals is to not be shy a lot.

Family Love

Family is the most wonderful people you can have. They are the only ones that will always be there for you when you need them. They will give you advice and help you when you need help. Not all the families are the same but my family is amazing. My family which is my parents, my older sister, and my little brother are always there for me.
In my life I really haven’t gone through difficult situations with my family but if we ever do we try to talk it out and solve it. I hate when my family fights because it hurts my feelings. The most wonderful feeling is when my family gets together and has fun and enjoys and shares those grateful moments. My family has showed me to love and to appreciate what I have. I love to see my family happy and when ever they need help or they need someone top talk to I’m always there for them and I do whatever it takes to see them happy.
I’m so happy and grateful to have the family I have. My family is everything to me. How I said, I will do anything to see them happy and when I see them arguing I always try to go into the conversation even though I shouldn’t but I do it so they could stop arguing and be happy instead. My family has showed me a lot, for example they showed me to love, to appreciate, and to help others in need.

Capstone Hours

Hours Done: 3

On February 26, 2013 I went to the South San Francisco Clinic to do my hours. I did two hours. When I got there I read five to six books to, two little kids. After that my mentor told me to put the kids’ books in the shelves. They have a lot of books and every time a little kid goes to the doctor they get a free book. My mentor and I were also talking about college and careers. She was giving me advice. I appreciate her giving me advice because I don’t have people to talk about college with. I asked her several questions and she responded correctly and answered my question. She also explained the difference between a registered nurse and a medical assistance. On February 28, 2013 I went to do another hour. I finished fixing all the books. This was my second time going and I felt a little bit more confident and comfortable around the nurses.
